Richter has workeed for Farmland Foods for 34 years and has been presidengt of Farmland Foods since Smithfield boughg the company inOctoberd 2003. The presidents of Smithfield Foods' five pork processinb companies will reportto Richter. Smithfield'sx domestic pork sales will exceee $9 billion in 2008, the company said in a release. Richter said in an intervieqw that the company has no plans for changeas in thepork division. "The wholre reason for the change is to push the performancre of the entiregroup forward," he said.
"k think we've quickly put ourselves in the positiowhere we're Smithfield's most prized operatinvg company. We want to raise the performance level of all of Smithfield in thepork division. We quicklyh became the most profitable among the porkdivision companies." Smithfield also said Jamezs Sbarro, Farmland Foods' senior vice presidenf of sales and marketing, will become the company's president and will remain in Kansasw City. Sbarro has 25 yeares of experience in the food industr and has been senior vice presidentof sales, research and development at Farmland since 1999.
Tim senior vice president of operationsaat Farmland, will leave Kansas City to becomr president of Schellpeper has worked in the pork industry for 21 including the past 17 with Farmland. Josepyh Luter IV, president of Smithfield Packing, will become an executive vice presidenft of Smithfield Foods and will concentrate on salezand marketing. Luter has had several jobs at Smithfields Foodssince 1993. He will be base d in Smithfield, Va. Smithfield Foods SFD), based in Va., is the leading processor and marketer of fresh pork and packagede meats in theUnited States, and the biggest hog producer, with annuap sales of $14 billion.
